Losing Motivation?

Motivation comes and goes. This is the struggle for countless people trying to make changes in their lives. Whether you look outward or inward for motivation, your overall goal should always be your top priority. You’ll have periods of time where all you want to do, is the opposite of what you need. Your body wants to do less of everything. This is why you’re more inclined to do nothing, than to use up all your energy through activity. It’s a survival mechanism. Your body wants to store energy in case of an emergency. So what do you do when you don’t feel like doing anything?

Everyone experiences the following issue in different magnitudes. You know you have things to get done. Cook your meals, hit the gym, finish with cardio and get back in time to complete your report for work, all before your kids go to sleep. This doesn’t stop your mind from telling you how much easier it’ll be to do none of the above. Instead, your mind signals for you to rest, store your energy and save it for another day. This is usually why most people look for outside motivation, instead of internal.

If you have to argue with yourself every day to get things done, there’s always a chance you won’t get to any of it. Your mind will go through 100 thoughts, all of which are great excuses for you not to move. When you look for motivation from outside sources, you start to rely on them to begin working on anything. It may be excellent in that moment, but in the long term it’s not sustainable. This is why you have to focus on consistency rather than motivation.

There comes a time where motivation just won’t cut it. No matter what you see, hear or want, you’ll have days where nothing works. This is why your focus should be on learning how to stay consistent, build habits and push through any kind of obstacles. When you take control of your thoughts, you’ll be surprised just how much you can accomplish.

Motivation comes in many forms. You’re free to get yours from different sources. Just remember, consistency will beat looking for motivation any day.
